Professor Michael Mahmoudi
BSc, MBBS, FRCP, PhD, FACC
I studied Medicine at the Royal Free Hospital School of Medicine and undertook my medical training in London, Southampton, Cambridge, and Washington. I completed my PhD in Professor Bennett’s laboratory in Cambridge where I identified the molecular mechanisms underpinning the beneficial effects of atorvastatin upon vascular smooth muscle cell physiology. My research was accompanied by an 18 months fellowship at the Washington Hospital Centre, Washington DC, acquiring expertise in percutaneous coronary intervention and intracoronary imaging.
I returned to Cambridge as an NIHR clinical Lecturer and was subsequently appointed as a Senior Lecturer in Cardiovascular Sciences and Honorary Consultant Cardiologist at the University of Surrey. I moved to Southampton as an Associate Professor in Interventional Cardiology in 2016.
