Mr Abood is a fully accredited Plastic, Reconstructive & Aesthetic surgeon. He holds a substantive NHS consultant position at Addenbrooke’s Hospital, Cambridge, part of the world renowned Biomedical Campus. He graduated from Cambridge University and completed his medical training at St Mary’s Hospital, London. He has trained extensively both in the UK and Internationally and has undertaken a number of prestigious fellowships. These have included a year spent at The Royal Adelaide Hospital, Australia where he treated patients with complex problems ranging from extensive cancers of the head and neck to major trauma ; A travelling fellowship to The Memorial-Sloan Kettering Cancer Centre, New York, where he observed some of the latest approaches to cancer treatment; He was the senior microsurgical fellow at St Andrews Centre, Broomfield, UK which is internationally recognised as being one of the leading centres for microsurgical breast reconstruction and was the Cosmetic Fellow at the McIndoe Surgical Centre, East Grinstead, UK, one of the few centres in the UK offering dedicated training in all aspects of cosmetic surgery.
During his surgical training he undertook a year of full time research investigating ways in which the treatment of skin cancers could be improved. He was awarded an M.Sc and distinction for this work, University College London. He has published more than thirty papers in medical journals and authored a number of book chapters on topics that range from scar revision techniques to breast reconstruction.
Mr Abood’s NHS practice involves the treatment of all forms of skin cancer. He treat patients with malignant melanoma and is able to offer them a comprehensive service that includes sentinel lymph node biopsy. He is also the clinical lead for major trauma reconstruction where he is part of the team that helps to reconstruct those with complex injuries.
